The Hollywood Photo Archive is a unique collection of cinematic history, with 180,000 items capturing the gunmen, the gallants, the ghosts, and the stars of the big screen. The collection has been assembled over the past forty years by director Colin Slater. In Slater’s early days, it was the great directors, Wilder, Lean, and Welles, who advised him to study and learn from the film stills. Slater, along with the legendary journalist and film executive Fred Hift, ran the public relations agency The Adventurers, working on almost every motion picture produced in the UK, gathering stills from the stars and press collateral from the studios. Thus the Hollywood Photo Archive was born.
